WHEN Louis Freers decided to shave off his hair to show support for his mum during chemotherapy, he had no idea the stunt would raise more than £2,540 for charity.

The 15-year-old pupil at North Chadderton School, went to Carlo’s Barbers in Royton without telling his mum, Elaine Wild, in the hope the surprise would cheer her up.

Louis set up a fundraising page — www.justgiving.com/Elaine-Wild — to collect money for the Christie hospital, which has looked after Elaine (42).

He set a target of £250 and was overjoyed to see he had raised £400 by the next morning. A few days later, his total had soared to £2,540 - and is still rising.

He said: “I can’t believe how much money I’ve raised, I’m gobsmacked. I’m delighted I’ve raised money for the place that looked after her and made her feel better.

“I don’t like the way my head looks with my hair this short but it cheered my mum up so it was worth it. I want to thank everyone that has donated, we are really grateful.”

Elaine, of Longdale Close, Royton, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in October and started chemo last month.

“I hated losing my hair,” she said “I was delighted and really shocked when I saw Louis. It was a really lovely thing for him to do and he’s raised so much money.”
