OLDHAM UKIP councillor Warren Bates has hit out at a Channel 4 docudrama that depicts rioting on the streets after UKIP wins the general election.
Councillor Bates, who represents Failsworth West, described “UKIP: The First 100 Days” as “fantasy island”.
Monday’s screening featured a combination of archive video and imagined scenes and attracted more than 700 complaints. Channel 4, which defended the programme, received 250 complaints.
Councillor Bates said: “It was absolute nonsense.”
Referring to UKIP opponents, he said: “I think it is perfectly clear what is going on. They are frightened, frightened to death. The local and general elections are just around the corner and they are all too aware of that. People are so frightened they will throw everything they can at us.
“In all my time in politics I have never seen a party attacked like UKIP, it is unbelievably transparent - but I love it.”
The docudrama features actress Priyanga Burford as UKIP’s only Asian woman MP, who is elected for Romford in an imagined landslide making Mr Farage Prime Minister.
