ALWAYS smiling . . . Mrs Littlewood
ONE half of Oldham’s oldest couple has died at the age of 100.
Sarah “Sally” Littlewood (nee Burton) died peacefully in her sleep at Bickerton Court in Chadderton, where she lived with her husband Joseph (99). The funeral will take place at Corpus Christi Church, Chadderton, on Tuesday, March 10.
Mrs Littlewood, who celebrated her milestone birthday last November, will be sadly missed by daughter Wyn Brady (68), son Terence Littlewood (67), grandson Nathan (30) and great-granddaughter Molly Grace (3).
Mrs Brady said: “My father is absolutely devastated. They had known each other for more than 80 years.
“She was the happiest woman you could ever wish to meet. Everybody loved being around her. She was never down in the dumps. It’s going to be a huge loss. She was a wonderful mother.”
Mrs Littlewood was born and grew up in the building which is now home to the Grapes pub on St John Street, Lees.
