Mixed reception for park plan

OPINION was divided as residents shared their ideas to help create a new linear park as a part of the controversial Foxdenton development plans.
The 20-acre park will provide a green link between Broadway and Foxdenton Lane.
Last night the Land Trust, which will manage the park, held a public event for comments. While some locals welcomed the plans, members of the Foxdenton and District Protection Group said its creation wasn’t enough to make up for the loss of green space.
The proposed £100 million Foxdenton project will build 210 homes and a business park off Foxdenton Lane, Chadderton, due to be called Broadway Green.
The plans are opposed by a number of local residents who have fears over the increase of traffic and the loss of green space.
Councillor David Hibbert, of Chadderton South Ward, said: “The project is obviously going ahead now so everyone should come together to make sure that the best possible outcome is achieved and that’s what tonight is all about.”
Alison Whitehead, from the Land Trust, said: “Our focus is to listen to everyone so together we can work towards something that can really bring something positive to this community.”
