BUNGLING thieves had to abandon a van they had stolen - when the rope they used to tow it away snapped as the owner’s wife chased them through Shaw.

The drama unfolded at Cape Gardens on Sunday morning when Sinead Lockery shouted upstairs to her husband David that his van was being stolen from the driveway

Sinead jumped into the family’s other vehicle and took off after the van.

When the thieves reached Linney Lane the tow rope snapped and the driver jumped out and made off in a stolen silver Volkswagen Golf.

David said: “Sinead pulled up and started beeping them and people were coming out of their houses to see what was happening. They started coming towards her so she said the police had been called and they just drove off.”

One of the thieves was white, of slim build and was wearing a black or navy hoodie. The other was a black man and wore a black hat, sleeveless jacket and jeans.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
