Controversial MP comes to Uppermill

CONTROVERSIAL MP George Galloway is to appear in a Saddleworth pub - to support a brass band’s mission to lay flowers at a war shrine.

The high profile politician, broadcaster and writer, the Bradford West Respect Party MP for three years, will appear at the sold-out private charity event at the Swan Inn, Dobcross.

The event, organised by fundraiser Peter Young, is in aid of a trip to Ypres, Belgium in August by the Dobcross Silver Band and its adult student section, the Brass Monkeys.

The bands will play the Last Post and lay wreaths on behalf of the people of Saddleworth.

Mr Young, from Delph, said: “I was approached by band president John Holden and I was really struck by this venture and keen to help. The evenings have usually involved appearances from people I know in show business. This time I decided to contact people I didn’t know but thought would make an interesting evening.

“Mr Galloway is an outstanding orator, a controversial character and I thought it would be interesting to hear what makes him tick.

“George wanted to support the Ypres trip, accepted my invitation immediately and will be appearing on May 20.”
