Mahdlo team gunning for glory

TRAINING has started as Mahdlo members prepare to go for glory in the OnSide network’s President’s Cup later this month.

Members of the Egerton Street Youth Zone will face competitors from Blackburn, Manchester, Bolton, Carlisle, London and Wigan during the competition on Saturday, March 28.

Taking place at Wigan Youth Zone, the event is supported by Mahdlo’s president, Norman Stoller, and will see around 250 young people competing in a range of sport and creative competitions.

Each youth zone has also been asked to put together a video, chant and unique mascot which creatively showcases team members and the Youth Zone strengths in the hope of encouraging a positive buzz about the event.

Blackburn Youth Zone was crowned as the winner at last year’s event, but newcomers from London will be hoping to make an impact on their debut.

Stephen Pearson, project co-ordinator at OnSide Youth Zones said: “The buzz and euphoria created in each Youth Zone prior to the event is electric.

“Every young person is fully focussed, trained and prepared to compete for their Youth Zone.

“They put all of their efforts, thoughts, concentrations on the line, Juniors, seniors and inclusion members will compete for the title where a lot of fun, friends and respect are made across the event which leads to some really great memories and lifelong friends.”
