Danger dodgems

AN Oldham boss is calling for action at the “dangerous junction” outside her Lees Road premises.

Kath Soliman of Oldham Training Centre hears “bangs and crashes” on a weekly basis at the crossroads of Lees Road, Mount Pleasant Street and Moorhey Street, where four lanes allow vehicles to turn right in both directions.

Mrs Soliman said crash victims often come in asking to see their CCTV footage to help with insurance claims.

She added: “I’ve worked at OTC for 10 years and I still drive the long way round when I leave work because I am frightened to even attempt to get out on to the crossroads.

“We hear crashes all the time. Each incident takes at least half an hour to sort out and staff obviously run to the window when they hear the noise.

“This year alone we’ve had three requests for CCTV viewing and the people coming in to see the footage are often really upset when they see what happened to them. To see people who have been through a crash is awful.

“I’m not sure why there has been an increase recently but we are definitely seeing more and more incidents. There have been two in the last week. One lady’s car was hit by a car coming from Moorhey Street and she ended up in our car park because she got shunted across the road.

“It needs an expert to come and assess the junction to see what the best course of action would be.”

An Oldham Council said the road is being monitored to determine if action is needed.
