FUNKY socks . . . pupils at Christ Church School show off their fund-raising footwear
WHEN a pupil whose sister has Downs Syndrome asked teachers if he could wear wacky socks to school, they invited all their pupils to do the same for a school awareness campaign.
Four-year-old Lorca Smith Scott told teachers at Christ Church School, Denshaw, he wanted to support the Lots of Socks Down Syndrome awareness campaign as his 19-month-old sister Halle has the condition. Lots Of Socks saw people across the world wear colourful socks to mark Downs Syndrome Awareness Day on Saturday.
Lorca, from Moorside, didn’t quite anticipate the school’s reaction. Not only did they approve, they sent a letter to parents inviting their children to join in.
Children donated money as they got to the school and the £70 raised went to the Downs Syndrome International charity.
Graham Smith Scott, Lorca and Halle’s dad, said: “Lorca wanted to do this so we told the school and they invited the whole school to take part, which was really touching.”
