Refugee’s wheelchair appeal
Date published: 24 March 2015
A KOSOVAN refugee is appealing to Oldhamers to donate a wheelchair for a young girl in his native country.
Osman Caka (65) is flying to his town, Kacanik in Kosovo, on Friday morning to visit his son’s grave, and hopes to see the family of Faviola Mehan, an eight-year-old girl from Podujevo, who cannot walk.
Mr Caka read the story of the family, who live on the other side of the country, and felt compelled to do something.
He said: “When I saw the article I was shocked. I like to help people, and that family is very poor.”
Mr Caka arrived in Oldham in April, 1999, following a killing spree by Serb soldiers in his village in Kacanik. His son Ilir, along with 10 others, was killed by Serbs during the Kosovo war in 1999.
Anyone who can help should call Mr Caka on 07411934569.
