Satellite centre seeks tenant

COMMUNITY groups are being urged to secure the future of a popular Greenfield centre.

A tenant is being sought to take over the council-owned building in Wellington Road, to keep the facilities open for community use following the loss of youth provision in council budget cuts.

Lisa Macdonald, district co-ordinator for Saddleworth and Lees, hopes the building can become a multi-activity facility: “We would love the centre to stay open for the benefit of the community, but we need to find a tenant,” she said. “It is a focal point for the whole of Saddleworth and Lees and it is really important it remains like that.”

The council’s assets team is to invite expressions of interest and plans from potential tenants.

A new youth group is to throw open its doors in Greenfield following the withdrawal of services from the satellite centre.

Volunteers have rallied to launch Youth Local (YoLo) to provide activities. The group’s base will initially be at Greenfield Conservative Club and will hold its first event there tomorrow from 7pm. Young people and their parents are invited to see the group’s proposals.
