MasterChef Simon arrows in on title

Superchef Simon Wood could see his cooking career take off after jetting through another round of “Masterchef” with a “Red Arrows” feast.

The foodie father-of-four from Chadderton led the show’s blue team to victory by whipping up a 50th anniversary celebration lunch for 90 pilots and the support crew.

Simon took charge of three of his fellow semi-finalists and served up salmon, ravioli and plum tart, with judges John Torode and Greg Wallace agreeing his team worked the best together and showed the most ambition.

After the show jubilant Simon told the Chronicle: “I really enjoyed that challenge. It was hard but very satisfying and everything just came together, so I was pleased. MasterChef is cult viewing for a lot of people and a few have stopped me in the street and asked to have their picture taken with me. It does feel a bit strange!

“My kids have been avidly watching it, mainly to keep pausing to see the stupid expressions on my face and there’s been a lot of those!”

Tomorrow night sees Simon face the “Scraps” test: he has to juggle giblets, fish heads and stale bread to create a dish from leftovers.

“I can’t say too much but let’s just say the scraps round is very interesting,” said Simon.

If he makes it through, Friday’s last semi-final will see him fight for a place in the final.
