A TRIBUTE page to one of Oldham’s most well-known characters has been inundated with donations to buy a memorial bench and plaque in his honour.
Geoffrey Clover (71), who many will know as Rambo, was found dead in his bungalow on Lynmouthh Avenue, Hathershaw, on April 1. The news sparked an outpouring of grief for the popular local figure and a fund, started by Chloe Williamson in his memory, quickly raised £400.
The fund is hoping to use the money to pay for a new bench and memorial plaque, or to contribute towards the cost of a funeral.
A Facebook page, the “Rambo Appreciation Society”, was flooded with tributes.
“We just set it up to see what we could do to help the family,” said Chloe, “but it’s really taken off.
“I used to give him a brew when he came in to the shop. He used to tell me mad stories. He was such a lovely man, but people never gave him the time of day.
“We want to put the money towards a plaque and a bench and maybe even to a local charity.”
