Spoof Hitler video sparks club furore
Date published: 21 April 2015
AN online video that features a spoof visit by Hitler to Springhead Liberal Club is to be removed
The video has humorous English captions over the original German rant in a scene from acclaimed movie Downfall, about the last days of the German Chancellor.
The captions suggest the Nazi’s Fuhrer’s speech is about a planned visit to the club, which is described in glowing terms by his officers.
The video ends with a subdued Hitler saying he will go to the club and sit in a corner with a pint, looking out of the window.
Club secretary Martin Kelly said: “Our management team realised the film had humorous intentions but was disappointed by the use of bad language. Some members complained. The person who placed the video had no intention of upsetting fellow members.”
The same clip has been used on other occasions by other posters to paint Hitler’s rant in otherwise innocuous circumstances.
