Stanley Road Sports Club - to close
A STRUGGLING social club is to close at the end of May.
Stanley Road Sports and Social Club had said it would remain open for the next six to 12 months. But despite asking for support, steward Jeff Hadaway confirmed it will close on May 31.
“The builder who owns it said he would let us have it rent free for a couple of months to help us out,” said Jeff.
“But the way things are going, the club isn’t viable. Everybody is gutted. He’s done his best and we’ve done our best but there’s nothing we can do about it. I have notified everybody that’s booked a function and we are offering them an alternative venue.”
The former Conservative club has large debts, some of which go back three or four years.
