Shop’s guide-dog shock

A STORE manager has apologised after staff told a blind man he couldn’t take his guide dog into the shop.

John Rogers (62), of McDonough Close, was at the Fitton Hill Superstore in Fircroft Road when he was told by staff to take his dog, Kendal, outside. Despite his protests, John was forced to leave.

He said: “I go there now and then. When I went in this time I was told no dogs allowed. I tried to explain he’s my guide dog, my eyes. They told me it didn’t matter; no dogs were allowed.

“It’s happened before but that was a misunderstanding. This time it was very clear.”

Store manager Wakaf Arif said he was unaware of the incident and would investigate and apologise.

“I apologise sincerely. I have two dogs myself and I take pride in helping out in the community. I will be investigating this and taking action,” he said.
