A splash finish for Jake Sedgwick and hundreds more.
HUNDREDS of revellers had a splashing good time on the giant Dr Kershaw’s Hospice waterslide on Saturday.
Yorkshire Street became a 370ft ride of fun as part of the inventive “Ticket to Slide” fund-raising appeal by the Royton hospice.
Around 800 people took to the slide, led by two brave “Test” youngsters, first to slip and slide between Bradshaw Street and Horsedge Street.
Eight-year-old Joshua Stevenson from Shaw, said: “It was amazing, I loved being the first one to test it but I was a bit nervous too. When it finished I just wanted to have another go!”
His friend Jack Evans (11) also had a test run. The East Crompton St James school pupil said: “I had a great time, each time I went down, it got better and better!”
Arron Cheshire, Dr Kershaw’s community fund-raiser, said: “It was a brilliant day, everyone who came down the slide had a huge smile on their face.
“We ended up letting an additional 300 people take a slide, as well as those who had already signed up online. We’re still counting how much was raised, but it looks like it was a few thousand pounds, which is great.
Plans are already taking shape for another waterslide - maybe on a steeper slope next time.
