Green agrees Latics deal

WHIZZ-KID George Green, once tipped for international stardom, had agreed a deal which will see him become an Athletic player.

The 19-year-old attacker – who was only recently released by the Premier League club – will sign a two-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.

Green, who spent the last two months of last season on loan to Tranmere, originally made his move to Goodison from Bradford at the age of 15 in a deal that cost the Toffees £300,000.

While it didn't ultimately work out for the Dewsbury-born talent, with personal issues said to have played some part, Athletic fans will hope that he follows in the footsteps of Jose Baxter, who followed a similar path to SportsDirect.com Park.

“Joe Royle at Everton pushed me towards Oldham because of his relationship with the club,” Green said, with Athletic's legendary former manager said to have waxed lyrical to Kelly about the teenager's ability in possession.

Green joins Lee Croft as new men in the squad for 2015-16, with a centre-forward due to sign next week after a permanent deal was agreed in principle.
