CROMPTON Primary School pupils ran sports day in every sense off the word!
Teaching staff handed the organisation of the Key Stage 1 sports day to five youngsters in the pupil Sports Crew who planned and co-ordinated the whole event. Harvey Herschell, Phoebe Scott, Rhia Thomas, Beth Martin-Nixon and Ben Pilling organised everything down to a tee, even printing and presenting certificates to the victors.
The five Year 6 children also led the warm-up and dances prior to the contests, which included sprint, long jump, hurdle and traditional egg and spoon, skipping and sack races.
Even staff and parents joined in the fun, competing against each other in a relay race.
Head teacher Martin Moore said: “What a tremendous effort by our Sports Crew who successfully took on a huge challenge this year making the event better than ever.
“The school sports day is a highlight in the school calendar at Crompton. We strongly believe that our sports provision is improving year on year. Our commitment is recognised by our Sainsburys School Games Silver Kitemark.”
The school Sports Crew is a new addition to the school as it prepares to apply for the Gold Kitemark.
