FROM Chadderton to London to New York... the ambition of budding photographer Stephen Smith knows no bounds.

The 18 year old is preparing to move to the capital to do a three year degree in photography at the prestigious London College of Communication.

After that he is hopeful of completing a Masters at the New York School of Visual Arts, then working as a fashion photographer.

Stephen, who has cerebral palsy, recently completed a one-year foundation art and design course at Oldham College. During this time he won a digital and creative vocational qualification award for his work.

Over the summer Stephen will work on several personal projects, including a trip to Amsterdam and some work for Limeside Community Trust’s newsletter.

He said: “I’m really excited about moving to London and living in halls. Excitement is the biggest thing I’m feeling. I’m ready to embrace the new challenge.

“Photography gives me an escape and lets me be truly creative. Winning the VQ award from Oldham College really boosted my confidence.”

Lee Maycox, Stephen’s tutor at Oldham College, said: “Stephen is a truly remarkable student, despite incredibly challenging circumstances and physical barriers, he has excelled since the start of the course.
