Rail group seeks new recruits

AN action group for rail services from Oldham’s only station is looking for more members.
Greenfield Rail Action Group’s aim is to improve the frequency and quality of services between Huddersfield and Manchester.
GRAG was dismayed last month when the planned electrification of the line was indefinitely “paused” by Network Rail. The postponement means there are no plans to cope with the forecast growth in passenger numbers.
The group is contacting all the MPs with constituencies along the line to put pressure on the Government and the Department for Transport. It wants them to recognise the importance to the economy of passengers who use Greenfield station.
Royce Franklin, GRAG’s secretary, said: “We want to increase our numbers because the more members we have, the louder the voice.”
