Mates face really steep challenge
Date published: 28 July 2015
TWO friends are preparing to do the famously gruelling Three Peaks challenge to raise money for meningitis research.
Daniel Sterry (42) and Nikki Leese (32) hope to climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in 36 hours, pushing themselves to their limit on the three tallest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland on September 4.
Daniel and Nikki are raising money memory of David’s younger brother Ross, who died of meningitis two years ago aged 36.
Ross, from Shaw and once a pupil of Royton and Crompton School and Blue Coat, had signed up to do the challenge himself in the year he died. Daniel and Nikki have taken up the challenge on his behalf. The pair are hoping to raise over £600 for charity Meningitis Now.
“Family and friends didn’t have the opportunity to say goodbye and our lives have been left empty by the tragic loss of Ross,” Daniel said. “The climbs are going to challenge us both mentally and physically and we hope to stamp out meningitis with every step we take.”
