A MAN has described the shocking moment two vicious dogs pounced on a pram carrying two terrified toddlers as they tried to attack a family pet.

Nick Cross (31) was walking near Grimshaw Lane and Kenyon Lane, Middleton Junction, when he saw the two dogs without an owner.

Mr Cross said: “I saw two women with a small dog on a lead and two toddlers in a pram. I knew from the body language of the two dogs they would attack the other dog. “I approached the women but by this point it was too late.”

The two dogs ran at the other dog, which had crawled under the pram for safety.

Mr Cross added: “It was horrible. They were trying to attack it. They had their faces right in the pram as they tried to get to it. The two women were screaming for help and didn’t know what to do.”

Mr Cross and another passer-by fought to control the dogs in an ordeal that lasted for around 20 minutes.

He added: “We both took turns in trying to grab the dogs but they were trying to bite us. We eventually managed to pull them away long enough for the women to get away to their house.

“If I hadn’t had been able to pull them away I hate to think what would have happened. Those women may have been in big trouble.”

Mr Cross contacted the police but he was told they hadn’t actually attacked or harmed anyone so there was nothing they could do. The local dog warden wasn’t available.

Mr Cross said: “These two dangerous dogs were then simply left to roam around the streets all night.

“There should be something you can do about it. I worried about children out playing as it is the school holidays.”
