ATHLETIC 1, SHREWSBURY 1

LIAM Kelly's penalty wasn't enough to earn Athletic victory against Shrewsbury at SportsDirect.com Park.

Athletic's captain rolled home a spot-kick in the 52nd minute after David Dunn had been tripped in the box.

But James Collins stepped round Joel Coleman to fire an equaliser into an empty net.

And though Athletic stay unbeaten, there were tense scenes as the visitors pushed on for a winning goal.

Centre-backs Jermaine Grandison and Mark Ellis headed off target for the visitors from early corner kicks, but Athletic grew into the game and Jonathan Forte almost scored with a superb volley which crashed against the crossbar.

Mike Jones saw his shot turned over by Jayson Leutwiler as the home side started the second half well, before Kelly scored.

Shrewsbury soon equalised, though, and almost hit a second when substitute Shaun Whalley's shot was well stopped by Coleman.
