Bilal Malik: fund-raising in his honour
THE memory of a much-loved cricketer has inspired his family and friends to raise money for charity.
A tournament is taking place all day on Sunday at Glodwick Cricket Club in honour of 23-year-old Bilal Malik, who lost his fight against cancer at Christie’s in February this year. The day will feature family-friendly attractions too/
His brother Fazeem Akhtar, who has helped organise the event, said: “He was only young. He loved cricket — the tournament is for him. Christie’s did a lot for him. I thought let’s get together and give something back.”
Bilal came to Oldham as an 11 year old and was in the process of applying to study architecture at university when he fell ill a year ago.
Proceeds from the tournament, which starts at 10am until late, will go to the Christie Allsorts Fundraising Group
