ONE of the Oldham men who died in a road crash in Scotland was engaged to be married.

Tosief Ahmed (21), of Brewerton Road, Clarksfield, was killed in the smash on the A74(M) near Gretna with friend Asad Majeed (22), from Glodwick.

They were returning home after visiting family in Scotland when their white Mercedes is believed to have hit a bridge column near junction 21 early on Sunday morning.

The pair both attended the former Breeze Hill School and Jameel Ahmed, one of Tosief’s three brothers, said they worked in takeaways. Tosief also had two sisters.

Jameel added “They were the best of friends and had gone to see family in Scotland. We are just trying to get the bodies home and trying to make some sense of what’s happened.

“They were beautiful young men — lovely boys and always smiling. Both were hard working and very humble.”

Jameel said Tosief was part of a group of four or five close friends who were all planning to get married. “He got engaged earlier this year and was going to get married some time early next year,” he added.

Friends and family of both men attended prayers at Oldham Al-Madina Jamia Mosque, Glodwick.

Abdul Khan, who works in nearby Hussain and Sons cash and carry, knew Asad: “He was a good lad. He was kind and was a good friend.”

Tributes also flooded in for the pair on the Facebook.

The police investigation continues.
