Woman knocks out partner - with a plank

A GREENACRES woman repeatedly hit her partner over the head with a plank of wood, a court heard yesterday.

Tammie Grimbley (30) of Derwent Walk denied assaulting her then partner Ian Chapman, but the attack, close in the Asda store in Huddersfield Road, Oldham was witnessed by a store employee.

Oldham magistrates heard earlier this year that the store worker saw the couple arguing then as the victim walked away Grimbley hit him repeatedly across the head.

Gareth Hughes, prosecuting, said: “It connected three to four times before he fell to the floor.”

Though Mr Chapman refused to give a statement, Grimbley was convicted on the witness’s evidence.

In a separate incident, Grimbley admitted assaulting two police officers as they arrested her, damaging body armour and verbally abusing both, as well as being convicted of racially aggravated assault, harassment and criminal damage.

Grimbley was convicted of all offences last month and was yesterday sentenced to a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.

Timothy Hughes, defending, said: “There is a common theme - and that is alcohol, coupled with other difficulties she faces medically.

“Mr Chapman was on top of her initially and I think this was a case of self-defence gone too far. She disputes that she is a racist.”

Magistrates also imposed a 12-month community order, a 12-month alcohol treatment order and told Grimley to pay £360 in costs and charges.
