A NEW community group aiming to improve life for residents in the OL1 area has been launched, with the help of the Mayor of Oldham.
The OL1 Group welcomed Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman and other organisations to its launch and encouraged them to sign a pledge to support plans to improve the area.
The group, made up of residents from the BGreen area (Barker Street, Burnley Street, Coldhurst, Egerton Street and St Mary’s), aims to unite the area in several ways.
OL1 Group chair Andy Gregori said: “People make communities strong, and bringing diverse communities together can be a challenge. We believe we all have the same needs, even though communities and people are all different. We share a postcode, OL1, and a desire to make this community a great place to work and live.”
Councillor Arooj Shah, ward councillor for St Mary’s, said: “We’re delighted to support such a great initiative that sees communities and a variety of organisations working cooperatively to improve the lives of our residents.”
