A 27-YEAR old man has been jailed for repeated sex offences and the rape of a little girl aged under six.

Keron Davies, who was 12 when he molested the youngster more than a decade ago, was said to have had a troubled upbringing and had been drinking alcohol and taking drugs.

Manchester Crown Court was told how unemployed Davies had himself been a victim of sexual abuse as a youngster and had been an “isolated and uncommunicative child.”

At the time he committed the offences he was living in Oldham and going through a “particularly difficult” time.

Sentencing him to four years in jail Judge Timothy Mort said: “She has suffered lasting damage by what she experienced as a little girl at your hands. You clearly knew what you were doing was wrong.”

Davies’ victim, who attended court said in a statement that his actions had marred her life.

David Lees, prosecuting, said Davies who moved to the Isle of Wight shortly after the offences, had been arrested after his victim had spoken out and confronted him.

Thogh he at first denied recollection of the incidents, he pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a child, indecent assault and rape on the day the trial was due to begin.

The charges reflected a course of behaviour over a period of at least a year, the court heard.

Nicola Gatto, defending, said Davies himself had been vulnerable and had suffered mental health issues and depression.

She added: “He now wants to acknowledge the hurt he caused this girl. That in itself is a very big step.”

Davies, of Station Avenue, Sandown, Isle of Wight, was sentenced to four years for rape, and three and a half years to run concurrently on the other charges.
