£250,000 to bring school up to scratch

OLDHAM Council’s Cabinet has approved the provision of more than £250,000 to fund extra work to the new Saddleworth School.

In July 2014, the council controversially acquired the land at the rear of the former WH Shaw Pallet Works site in Diggle. The deal was to be funded by a land swap with the existing school in Uppermill.

Due to the difference in value, the council received extra money to help pay for improvements on the proposed school site and a series of highway improvements.

The improvements, including retractable seating in the main hall and an upgrade of the main hall floor, have been approved by Oldham council’s cabinet.
