New heating system was a lifesaver

LUCKY escape . . . Derek and Donna Denton
A CHADDERTON couple’s new central heating system has potentially saved their lives.
Workman who installed Derek and Donna Denton’s new boiler, radiators and associated works revealed they were at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The work has been carried out by the borough’s award-winning Warm Homes Oldham service. A member of the team noticed burning on the gas fire radiants at the couple’s home - which indicated carbon leakage into the lounge.
Donna admitted feeling sleepy when watching television — a possible side effect of carbon monoxide poisoning. Derek was tested for asthma and his breath registered dangerous levels of the gas.
The couple were given temporary heaters until the new system could be fitted.
Derek said: “Our house is now nice and warm, and hopefully we’ll start saving money on our bills as well because they were costing us a fortune.”
