OLDHAM’S RSPCA branch has won a major cash boost towards its new centre - a £35,000 grant.
The Support Adoption for Pets charity has awarded Bury, Oldham and District RSPCA branch the cheque, which will go towards sensory exercise areas and behavioural “meet and greet” areas for dogs and cats at the new base in Strinesdale.
The branch is relocating to the former Strinesdale Visitor Centre, on Holgate Street after selling its Mumps site to Oldham Council for the Prince’s Gate development.
Staff are raising money to complete work at the new centre, which will be significantly bigger than the previous site.
Lisa Walsh, deputy animal centre manager, said: “We are desperately in need of funds. The new animal centre will enable us to increase the number of animals we rescue and rehome each year.”
The branch has relocated its animal advice centre to the RSPCA charity shop off Middleton Road in Chadderton, from 10am-4pm daily except Wednesdays.
The branch still has £200,000 to raise to complete its new Strinesdale base.
