Suranne in line for award

Oldham TV favourite Suranne Jones is up for an award in this month’s prestigious National Television Awards.

Chadderton-born Suranne is nominated in the Drama Performance category for her starring role in BBC series “Doctor Foster”.

Previous roles include playing factory worker Karen McDonald in Coronation Street and Det Sgt Rachel Bailey in hit ITV detective drama Scott & Bailey.

Coronation Street will be hoping to regain the best Serial Drama title after being pipped to the post by EastEnders last year.

The show is also represented in the Best Newcomer category by Shayne Ward, the Droylsden-born X Factor winner, who plays new-boy Aidan Connor.

The Street also has a nomination in the Serial Drama Performance category with Alison King flying the flag for her performances as Carla Connor.

And the BBC Breakfast programme, produced at Media City in Salford, is up for an award in the Live Magazine Show category.

The ceremony, on January 20 will be broadcast on ITV from London’s O2 Arena.
