CUB scout Dylan Bradley has never let anything stand in the way of him taking part in activities with his patrol.
The Oldham 10 year old, who is wheelchair bound after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, enjoys canoeing, abseiling and climbing with his friends at St Thomas’ Moorside. But when the patrol realised he would struggle on a camping trip without a suitable off-road wheelchair, the group rallied round and launched a “Do it for Dylan” appeal to raise money.
Patrol leader George Symons said: “It didn’t seem fair that Dylan couldn’t come camping with his friends so the decision was simple - we would buy him one.”
The patrol struggled to reach the £3,000 target but when members of Salford Freemasons spotted the appeal online, they topped up the fund with a cheque for £1,500.
Group chairman Ian Temple-Heald said: “This is a great example of scouts helping people, but with the generosity of the masons the scouts have again exceeded everyone’s expectations.”
