BAD behaviour, broken facilities and drugs are making life unbearable for residents of a town centre apartment block.

Householders at the Astoria apartments in Cardinal Street say they have complained several times about the issues affecting the block. One resident says she no longer feels safe in her own home.

The woman, who has lived in the apartments since 2009, said: “There have been problems since I moved in, but over the last six months it has become unbearable. We have complained about noise, inoperative lifts, rubbish piling up and drug dealing, but have had no help.”

She said she has reported the problems to building operators Great Places Housing Group but hasn’t had an adequate response.

“It’s not good enough: something needs to change,” she said.

Paul Newcombe of Great Places said the company is aware of the issues raised and has acted to deal with them, improving car park security, access restrictions and overcoming complaints of anti-social behaviour.

The Astoria - 48 two-bedroom affordable-rent apartments - was described as a “cutting edge” housing development when built in 2009.
