POLICE have increased their presence in Royton Park following reports of young people fighting in the area on Wednesday evening.
Officers were called to the park, on Bleasdale Street, shortly after 6.15pm, to reports of a fight involving several young people.
An investigation is under way into the incident and police say they are maintaining a “strong police presence” in the park following rumours of further gatherings.
GMP Royton and Shaw posted on Facebook yesterday: “We are aware of the incident which took place in the park last night, and the rumours of another possible gathering tonight.
“We will be maintaining a strong Police presence in the area, along with our partners from First Response.
“We ask that all parents advise their children not to visit the area with the intention of engaging in disruptive or unsociable behaviour.
“Any person found doing so will be strongly dealt with.
“This kind of behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
“Thank you for your co-operation.”
A post on social media from someone alleging to have witnessed the incident said up to “100 young people” were involved and one girl had been injured.
