PUPILS from seven Oldham primary schools aim to make all the right moves for a special performance with Oldham Rugby League Football Club.

They are busy rehearsing a street dance which they will perform at half-time in Oldham's televised game against Swinton Lions at the rugby league Summer Bash in Blackpool on May 29.

The club received a Lottery grant of £8,100 for the Oldham Moves project which aims to get more boys and girls interested in dance.

After-school dance clubs have been set up thanks to a partnership between Hathershaw College secondary school and Yorkshire company resiDANCE.

A total of 114 pupils from Alexandra Park, Greenhill, Holy Rosary, Medlock Valley, St Hugh's, St Martin's and Richmond primary schools are taking part. They will come together for a mass rehearsal at Hathershaw College on May 27 before the Blackpool performance

The dance clubs will continue after the performance and summer holiday dance activities will also take place at Hathershaw College.

Several games will take place over two days at the Summer Bash - the Championship's version of Super League's Magic Weekend - at Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road stadium.

Children from other clubs will also be taking part and Oldham Rugby League chairman Chris Hamilton, said: "This is another great example of the work we are doing in the local community.

"Most of the 114 Oldham children involved will never have done anything like this before and to perform on such a big stage will be a wonderful experience."

One and two-day tickets for the Summer Bash are on sale at Oldham RLFC, Whitebank Stadium during the following times: today at 9.30am to 1.30pm and tomorrow, 9.30am to 4pm. The deadline for reserved seating is 3pm tomorrow, but unreserved tickets will be on sale until 4pm Friday.
