CHANGES to the delivery hours of a Morrisons Superstore were refused by councillors.

On Wednesday night councillors convened at a planning committee meeting to discuss whether the delivery hours of the superstore on Poplar Street, Failsworth should be extended.

Neighbours had raised concerns about noise pollution at unsocial hours that would come from the superstore, which is in a mixed use area with the site adjacent to residential properties on three sides.

In letters to the council, residents voiced their concerns that an extension of the current delivery hours - 7am-9pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-4pm on a Sunday to 5am-11pm every day - would bring noise generation during unreasonable times.

In consultations with pollution control the council had advised it would allow temporary permission for 12 months to allow noise levels to be monitored, however it decided against this.

Cllr Joy Wrigglesworth said: "I think these hours are excessive, especially seven days a week.

"I am also very concerned about the residents, when you come to the car park there are terraced streets on two sides, I don't think we should subject residents to that for 12 months.

The plans are were refused on the grounds that it would cause unreasonable disruption for the residents around.

Councillor Rod Blyth added: "If we allow it for 12 months and it is absolutely horrendous for the first three weeks there is nothing we can do."

COUNCILLORS refused plans for a two storey side extension that would see the demolition of an existing garage on 9 Ainsdale Crescent, Royton.

The plans were refused because it was felt the scale of the proposal would show an overbearing nature on the house next door.
