MEMBERS of the Woman of Oldham committee visited Kingfisher School to find out more about its fundraising appeal for a new £2.2 million hydrotherapy pool.

The committee - which has raised more than £120,000 for good causes in the last 23 years - has chosen the appeal as its charity of the year.

Kingfisher in Chadderton is Oldham's only primary school for pupils with the most severe and complex special needs.

It launched its Big Splash campaign in November to raise the remaining £500,000 it needs for the pool which will provide a range of therapeutic benefits for pupils. The facility will also be available for others to use.

Michael Unsworth, business director at Kingfisher, said: "We are delighted that the Woman of Oldham committee is supporting The Big Splash with its fundraising for 2016.

"Members of the committee visited the school recently to meet the children to learn a little more about how their efforts will benefit the school.

"We are still a long way from our fundraising target and if anyone is interested in supporting us, please get in touch."

The Woman of Oldham committee holds a range of fundraising events, including its annual Woman of Oldham luncheon and award ceremony which takes place at The White Hart, Lydgate, on September 14.

Tickets for that are available from Janet Larton on 0161 652 8878.
