HITTING the right note is certainly what the folk at St Thomas Leesfield are looking to do as they prepare to celebrate the completion of a major project.
For three years they have been busy raising funds for a new community area in the Thomas Street church.
This will include an accessible toilet, kitchen area and a new community room with an independent heating system. It will be available for use by church members as well as groups from the wider community.
The building work is now virtually complete, although a small amount of fundraising is still required to pay for finishing touches and decorating. Church leaders anticipate that the opening of the new community area will take place on Sunday July 3.
To celebrate the occasion, a concert is being held on Saturday, July 2 from 7.30pm at St Edwards Church, in Spring Lane, Lees.
The event will include a 1940s-style dance band and singers, and feature classic big band favourites from the kings of swing.
Tickets cost £10 and include a buffet meal. For more information and to buy tickets, call Liz Dent on 0161 627 4515 or email lizzy.dent@googlemail.com.
