SADDLEWORTH Show once again proved a big hit with families who flocked to the fun extravaganza.

The annual extravaganza organised by Saddleworth and Metro Rotary Clubs clubs attracted around 4,000 visitors.

And it lived up to its promise to provide something for everyone - from young electric guitar players from Oldham Music Centre blasting out The Ace of Spade to Dobcross Youth Band's rousing rendition of Slaidburn, a climbing wall to a dry stone walling exhibition, laser tag to Saddleworth Peace Movement and afternoon tea to beer and wine and dog displays.

There was a young talent show, a falconry display, donkey rides, a llama, a children's obstacle course and lots of craft and charity stalls. Children could have a go a traditional fairground games like hook a duck or let off some steam on the trampolines and bouncy castles - "brilliant" shouted one boy as he spotted them.

The UK might have voted no to the EU, but there was plenty of European food on offer with German sausage, crepes, pizza, Greek souvlaki . . . and traditional bacon butties.

Visitors included Matthew and Kate Wilson from Uppermill and their one-year-old daughter, Nell.

Matthew said: "It's our first time - it's brilliant for children. Nell's nearly two and she's just been on a donkey. She cried at first but as soon as it started moving, she didn't want to get off."

Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Derek Heffernan, added: "Every year they have great family entertainment. There are so many people with children and grandchildren enjoying themselves."

The event was back at the school after moving to Well-i-Hole Farm, Greenfield last year, which has been sold.
