IT WAS a dream come true for two talented teenage footballers when they scored at the Theatre of Dreams.
Oldham Academy North pupils Ebad Amin and Ali Abdur Rahman, both 16, were among the students from 11 Greater Manchester schools chosen to make up the teams for the 60-minute match at Old Trafford.
And two unforgettable goals proved the icing on the cake for the lucky pair as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
Mentoring
The event was organised by the Manchester United Foundation for its partner schools, which include the Royton secondary. The foundation uses football to inspire young people to make the most of their lives through projects such as mentoring, coaching and leadership work.
Digital hoardings at Old Trafford displayed the names of the pupils taking part - with Ebad and Ali selected for their excellent behaviour and attendance as well as their footballing talent.
Head boy Ebad said: "When I was told I would be playing at Manchester United, I couldn't believe it.
"I felt so lucky to have been selected.
"It was amazing and I was so happy to have scored.
"I really appreciate being given this opportunity."
Oldham Academy North joined the Manchester United Foundation this month and principal Martin Knowles said: "I am sure these two students and their families will never forget the day.
"Our partnership with the foundation will provide many more opportunities like this for our students to broaden their minds and be inspired to achieve."
