Parents launch petition over school uniform

A PETITION has been launched to stop Royton and Crompton School from changing its students' school uniform.

The campaign, called "Keep The Royton And Crompton School Uniform The Same" was set up on change.org and has so far garnered 38 signatures.

Once it gets to 100 it will be delivered to the secondary school's headmaster Neil Hutchinson.

The uniform will be changed from jumpers to blazers, as well as having different ties for each school year.

Some of those commenting on the petition say they have already purchased school jumpers for the new school year and they would have liked to have been consulted.

Issued

The school has posted the letter which was issued to parents on its website. It states that staff members and the student council met with a local supplier to look at a range of "cost effective options".

The new items of uniform will be available from Zutti Co, in Yorkshire Street, from Monday, August 8.

Tracy Harris (40), whose two children attend the school, said she was "extremely angered" that she was only informed about the new uniform last Wednesday - a day-and-a-half before the end of term.

She said: "I know a few parents who are up in arms about it. I sent a massive email to the school, they're not really bothered about it.

"My concern is that they told me one-and-a-half days before the end of term. They said the children have been informed until now.

"I spoke to at least 12 children who said they haven't been informed.

"If they had consulted us beforehand it would have been better, rather than sending a letter one-and-a-half days before the end of term.

"There has been no consideration. Some children's parents won't be able to afford the changes."

The Chronicle contacted Royton and Crompton School several times, but they were unavailable for a comment.
