OLDHAM Council authorised a three year contract for the ongoing supply of plastic waste containers.

At a cabinet meeting yesterday evening councillors approved the proposal to award the contract to MGB Straight.

The council made its decision based on its obligation to supply recycling and general rubbish containers to residents.

The containers are used to replace old and damaged containers, to support its trade waste collection service and to support project work based on improving waste management performance.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge said that Oldham Council currently delivers between 14 - 15 thousand bins and with bin collections being changed to three weekly it is likely people will want bigger bins and replacement bins for those that are damaged and this is why the contract should be awarded.

OLDHAM Council will look to develop a specialist supported housing scheme for adults with learning disabilities.

At Monday's meeting, proposals to use Housing Revenue Account resources to build 20 supported homes and bid for Homes and Communities Agency funding to contribute to the cost were approved - with development possibly starting in late 2017.

In 2014 a joint strategic needs assessment identified that individuals with learning disabilities and their families felt that they have a lack of housing choices available to them within the borough.

The assessment found that there was a demand for supported independent living accommodation with access to some form of shared communal facilities.

The council will also work with Miocare to develop the service delivery model.

The development would accommodate around 20 adults and provide an environment suitable for those with learning disabilities such as autism.
