A FIRE broke out in the home of an elderly man after he left his food cooking on the heat.
Firefighters from Oldham came to the aid of the 90-year-old man who had fallen asleep.
The man had started cooking in the kitchen of his Oldham Road property on Monday afternoon and then left the room and forgot about it.
Pete Fletcher, watchman at Bury Central fire station, said: "Crews from Oldham attended the incident at around 3pm.
"The gentleman had gone to sit down, forgotten about his tea and nodded off.
"The smoke alarm had gone off which was linked to the help line and alerted the fire crews.
"The fire was contained to the pan of food. He was given oxygen and declined hospital treatment."
