A "FIRST class" GP surgery has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award by a grateful patient.

Marlene Maclean, from Diggle, has been attending Pennine Medical Centre, which has surgeries in Greenfield and Mossley, since 1961.

Her husband James suffers with many health problems and has had a difficult year, contracting pneumonia twice.

Marlene was so thankful for the care and attention he received across all departments that she put pen to paper and nominated the whole team for a Pride in Oldham award.

Marlene said: "They are brilliant.

"My husband James has had a number of strokes and caught pneumonia twice this year so I've had to deal with them quite a lot but they are always on hand to help you through.

"Whether its a chat over the phone, advice or medical assistance, they are always there and go above and beyond what is expected of them.

"From the receptionists to the doctors, I cannot fault them. They will listen and try and help you in whatever way they can."

This is the first time that the talented team of 29 doctors, nurses, managers, clinical pharmacists and admin staff have been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Joanne Cassinelli, practice manager, said many staff members had worked together for a long time which helped their patients.

She said: "I've been here for 31 years and my deputy for 26.

"We're a well established team and patients know us so they can open up to us.

"We offer a wide variety of services, a lot in house, and we try to keep people away from hospital.

"It's wonderful to be nominated for a Pride in Oldham award."
