CLOSE . . . Billy Mckay
ATHLETIC 0, CHESTERFIELD 0
ATHLETIC had to settle for another home draw after failing to break down Chesterfield.
Billy Mckay hit a post in the second half, but despite coming under plenty of territorial pressure the visitors carved out good chances with Gboly Ariyibi twice going close.
First, he forced Connor Ripley into an excellent 73rd-minute save from a close-range volley, then four minutes later saw an effort cleared by Peter Clarke from just in front of his own goal line.
The first half was a dour affair, with Ched Evans going closest with a drive after a long run down the middle that Ripley palmed away and then a flicked shot on half-time.
Mckay almost put Stephen Robinson's side in front, spinning superbly in the box before poking against an upright, but Athletic's boss is still hunting his first home league victory.
