PEDESTRIANS have been warned to take extra care after a teenager was attacked in broad daylight.
The 15-year-old boy was set upon by four thugs in the Wellington Street subway on Tuesday at 4.30pm.
The teen, who was badly beaten, said he had already given his mobile phone up to the offenders — all described as Asian — but they still attacked him.
Paul Morris, who works near by, said one of his staff found the boy covered in blood and took him home.
Now, Mr Morris has warned anyone using the Matalan retail car park to be extra careful.
He said: “A lot of people park there.
“When we heard about the incident, I walked some of our staff to their cars as did other male colleagues.
“I also suggested staff who finish work at the same time should walk to their vehicles in pairs.
“There have been a number of assaults in the subway over the last few years.
“My own staff say they have experienced harassment and unpleasant comments from youths hanging around there.
“It seems there is a risk at any time.”
Police were called out to the scene on Tuesday and searched the area. They say the matter is being investigated.
