OLDHAM Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy has moved to reasssure supporters that ambitious plans to redevelop Boundary Park have not been scrapped.
Reports on the Construction News website claimed Athletic’s £80 million scheme to build a new main stand on the Broadway side of the ground — plus neighbouring homes — had been shelved.
But Mr Hardy said the situation had not changed.
“We are in exactly the same situation as in the summer,” he added.
The reports claimed that the proposals, which had been suspended in the summer, were now on permanent hold.
Mr Hardy said: “It is just a temporary thing until the economic situation improves. The scheme, approved last December, would increase the stadium capacity to 16,000 and include hospitality boxes, conference facilities, restaurants and a neighbouring housing development.
The Broadway Stand was demolished in the summer, leaving Boundary Park with only three stands and a reduced capacity of 10,800.
