Love is in the air as owl delivers rings

REAL-LIFE wings of love brought wedded bliss to a couple’s “Harry Potter”-style wedding.

A 12-month-old barn owl called Fudge delivered their wedding rings in a black silk bag by flying over the heads of more than 60 guests to land on the groom’s arm.

Sian Davies and Craig Wilson, of Bury Street, Mossley, married in a glittering ceremony at the White Hart, Lydgate.

Romantic

And the unique event was witnessed by the couple’s very own special guest of honour — their pet Staffordshire bull terrier, Cracker, dressed in red bow tie and black tails.

After several pre-ordained commands from Craig, Fudge issued a shriek and flew from the bride’s cousin, Helen Chadfield’s arm, in a straight line to the glove on his arm more than 30ft away.

Sian, a 25-year-old legal secretary, said: “I wanted something different, romantic and special on my wedding day.

“Fudge behaved impeccably. Craig and I love animals and we wanted to have something really unusual on our wedding day so we would have extra strong memories.”

Craig (34), who works in the motor industry, said: “People may have thought it was a bit mad at first but was certainly different and it really worked well.”

Helen Chadfield, who has an aviary and falconry centre in Bath, said: “I was delighted to help with Sian’s request. Fudge is a very confident and obedient owl — she believes she’s human.”
